2024 Chevrolet Blazer: problems, recalls and fuel economy
Owners filed 129 complaints with NHTSA about the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer[1], and brakes and forward collision avoidance lead the list[2][3]. Five recalls are on file, so check that every repair on a car you are considering was done[4].
Most reported problems
NHTSA lists 129 owner complaints for this model year[1]. Nine mention a crash, none mention a fire, and 33 injuries and no deaths are reported[1]. These are unverified reports from owners. One complaint can name several parts, so the groups below overlap.
- Brakes: 37 complaints, 6 crashes and 6 injuries[2]. The median mileage at failure was 24,894[2].
- Forward collision avoidance: 35 complaints, 4 crashes and 26 injuries[3].
- Electrical system: 28 complaints, 1 crash and 1 injury[7].
- Visibility and wipers: 11 complaints and 20 injuries[8].
- Fuel and propulsion: 12 complaints, with no crashes or injuries[9].
- Power train and engine: 11 complaints each, with no crashes or injuries[10][11].
We read a small sample of the complaint texts for the biggest groups. They are not a count of all owners, and some of the texts we read describe the Blazer EV, the electric version. They may not apply to gasoline versions.
Brakes. In the sample, owners describe a pedal that goes to the floor or a brake assist warning while driving. Others describe the car braking hard on its own, including in reverse, with nothing in the way. Some mention a parking brake recall and a repair that did not settle their worry[2].
Forward collision avoidance. Owners describe automatic emergency braking that fires when nothing is ahead. Some say they switched the feature off. Some texts in the sample look like repeats, so read this theme with care[3].
Electrical system. Owners describe screens or the instrument cluster going dark, several warning lights at once, and high voltage or charging faults. Some describe one pedal driving not acting the way they expected[7].
Fuel and propulsion. In the sample, owners describe the car losing power or stopping while driving, along with high voltage warnings. Some describe charging trouble, such as a charge door that sticks[9].
Recalls
NHTSA lists five recalls for this model year, newest first. Each one lists a dealer remedy that is free of charge[12][13][14][15][16].
- Parking brake harness repair (26V031). Filed 2026-01-22 for 20 vehicles[12]. Some Blazer EVs may have been repaired the wrong way under the earlier parking brake recall. The rear wiring can be damaged or corroded. The parking brake could apply by itself while driving or stop working while parked, which can mean a crash or a rollaway. Dealers replace the chassis harness, free of charge[12].
- Parking brake wiring (25V433). Filed 2025-06-25 for 40,233 vehicles[13]. This is the same wiring problem on Blazer EVs. Dealers inspect the harness, reroute it and add protective tape if needed, and replace any harness that is already damaged. The repair is free of charge[13].
- Front control arm (24V487). Filed 2024-06-28 for 83 Blazer EVs[14]. The right front lower control arm may have a manufacturing flaw that lets it break, which can cause loss of control and a crash. Dealers inspect it and replace it as needed, free of charge[14].
- Rear drive unit (24V320). Filed 2024-05-09 for 10 vehicles across several GM models, including the Blazer EV[15]. Wires in the rear electric motors may not be insulated well enough and can touch, which can cut drive power and risk a crash. Dealers replace the rear drive unit and the repair is free of charge[15].
- Door strikers (23V869). Filed 2023-12-21 for 265 vehicles that include the Blazer and Blazer EV[16]. The door strikers can break, so a door could open while driving. Dealers replace all four strikers and their bolts, free of charge[16].
Ask the seller for proof that each recall repair was done. The 26V031 recall shows that a repair can need a second look[12].
Fuel economy
EPA rates the gasoline versions on regular fuel. Annual fuel cost uses EPA's current fuel price assumptions, not prices from when the car was new.
| Version | City / highway / combined MPG | Annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| FWD, 2.0L turbo 4-cyl[5] | 22 / 29 / 25 | $2,700 |
| AWD, 2.0L turbo 4-cyl[17] | 22 / 27 / 24 | $2,800 |
| FWD, 3.6L 6-cyl[18] | 19 / 26 / 22 | $3,050 |
| AWD, 3.6L 6-cyl[19] | 18 / 26 / 21 | $3,200 |
The Blazer EV AWD is rated 96 MPGe combined with 279 miles of range[20]. The Blazer EV RWD is rated 92 MPGe combined with 324 miles of range[21].
Safety ratings
NHTSA gives overall 5 stars, frontal 5 stars and side 5 stars to all four configurations we have[6][22][23][24]. Two entries are for the Blazer (AWD[6] and FWD[22]) and two are for the Blazer EV (AWD[23] and RWD[24]). Rollover is 4 stars for the Blazer AWD[6], the Blazer FWD[22] and the Blazer EV AWD[23]. The Blazer EV RWD gets 5 stars for rollover[24]. Rollover risk is 14.7%[6], 15.5%[22], 10.5%[23] and 8.9%[24].
Engine and size
EPA lists these power ratings for the 2024 Blazer. The 2.0L 4-cylinder is rated 237 hp[25]. The 3.6L 6-cylinder is rated 308 hp[26]. The electric version is rated 295 to 500 hp depending on version[27].
Dimensions are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models.

NHTSA shows 129 complaints and 5 recalls for 2024[4]. Complaint counts are not adjusted for how many cars were sold, so treat the comparison as rough.
Should you buy a used 2024 Blazer?
The data does not say this car is unsafe, and the complaint count is lower than for 2019 through 2021[4]. It does show a year with five recalls and brakes and emergency braking at the top of the complaint list[1][2][3]. If the car is a Blazer EV, confirm the parking brake, control arm, drive unit and door striker recalls were done[12][13][14][15][16]. Test the brakes and driver assist features on a long drive. Our data cannot tell you about oil, towing or tires, so ask the seller.
