2025 Chevrolet Corvette: problems, recalls and fuel economy
The 2025 Corvette has a short complaint record so far, with 11 owner complaints on file with NHTSA[1]. It also has 3 recalls to check before you buy or keep one[2].
Most reported problems
NHTSA has 11 owner complaints on file for the 2025 Corvette[1]. None mention a crash or a death. One mentions a fire and one mentions injuries[1]. These are unverified reports from owners, and one complaint can name more than one component[1].
| Component group | Complaints |
|---|---|
| Seats[4] | 2 |
| Visibility[5] | 1 |
| Structure[6] | 1 |
| Fuel/Propulsion System[7] | 1 |
| Forward Collision Avoidance[8] | 1 |
| Wheels[9] | 1 |
| Fuel System, Gasoline[10] | 1 |
| Unknown or other[11] | 1 |
Seats has the most complaints, but the gap is one complaint. It is also the group that holds the one fire and one injury[4]. In a sample of complaints we read, owners describe a strong chemical smell from the seats along with health symptoms, and a heated seat whose wiring damaged the seat fabric[4].
Other themes are single reports. In the sample we read, one owner describes a gap at the rear glass that lets in water[6]. One says the forward collision alert was triggered but the system did not respond[8]. One describes waiting on a recall repair part[10]. With so few complaints, none of these can be called a pattern.
Recalls
Three recalls apply to this car. You can check a VIN on NHTSA.gov[12].
- Turn signal (26V213). Filed 2026-04-02 and covering certain 2025 Corvette and Corvette E-Ray models along with 2026 models, with 32,988 vehicles potentially affected[12]. A software error may stop the car from noticing that a rear turn signal light has failed. The risk is that you do not know it is out, which raises the chance of a crash. The fix is a software update to the lighting control module, done by a dealer or over the air, free of charge[12]. Owner letters were scheduled for May 18, 2026[12].
- Remedy pending
Fuel spill (25V536). Filed 2025-08-21 for certain 2023 to 2026 Corvettes with a left-side radiator/fan combination, with 23,656 vehicles potentially affected[13]. Extra fuel may spill into the filler pocket while you refuel and reach a hot engine or exhaust part. That raises the risk of a fire. Dealers install a shield that diverts spilled fuel, free of charge[13]. Owner letters went out on November 14, 2025[13]. In the complaint sample we read, one owner reported that the repair part was not yet available when they wrote[10]. - Seat belt retractor (24V418). Filed 2024-06-06 for certain 2024 and 2025 Corvettes, with 13,464 vehicles potentially affected[14]. A driver or passenger retractor may lock while stowed and be hard to reach. A belt you cannot use cannot hold you in a crash, which raises injury risk. Dealers replace the retractors, free of charge[14]. Owner letters went out on September 19, 2024[14].
Owners can call Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020[12].
Fuel economy
EPA ratings differ a lot by version. All five use premium fuel.
| Version | City / highway / combined MPG | EPA annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| Corvette, 6.2L, rear-wheel drive[3] | 16 / 25 / 19 | $4,350 |
| Corvette E-Ray, 6.2L, all-wheel drive[15] | 16 / 24 / 19 | $4,350 |
| Corvette Z06, 5.5L[16] | 12 / 20 / 14 | $5,850 |
| Corvette Z06 Carbon Aero, 5.5L[17] | 12 / 19 / 14 | $5,850 |
| Corvette ZR1, 5.5L turbo[18] | 12 / 18 / 14 | $5,850 |
All are listed as Automatic (S8)[3]. The annual cost uses EPA's current fuel price assumptions, not the price when the car was new[3].
Safety ratings
NHTSA lists its 5-Star crash ratings as not rated for the E-Ray, Z06 and ZR1 versions[19][20][21][22][23][24]. We have no crash rating to share for this model year.
Engine and size
The EPA lists a 5.5L 8-cylinder rated from 670 to 1064 hp, depending on version[25]. It also lists a 6.2L 8-cylinder rated at 495 hp[26].

NHTSA lists 11 complaints and 3 recalls for the 2025 model year[2]. Among Corvette model years on file, only 2026 (3 complaints) and 2027 (1 complaint) have fewer complaints, and 2021 is close at 13[2]. On recalls, 2026 also has 3[2]. Several years have more, including 2005 with 6 and 1997, 2006, 2014 and 2015 with 5 each[2].
Complaint counts are not adjusted for sales, so treat the comparison as a rough guide.
Should you buy a used 2025 Corvette?
The 2025 Corvette has a light complaint record so far, with 11 complaints on file[1]. Three recalls apply, so check the VIN and ask for proof that the dealer repairs were done[12][13][14]. The seat complaints include the fire and the injury report, which is worth asking a seller about[4]. Fuel economy and running cost depend heavily on the version, from 19 combined MPG to 14[3][16]. NHTSA has not rated crash safety for the versions we checked, so that part of your decision rests on other sources[19].
