2026 Lincoln Aviator: problems, recalls and fuel economy
The 2026 Lincoln Aviator has very few owner complaints on file, with 4 at NHTSA[1]. It also has 6 recalls, and two of them involve seats whose fixes are not fully available yet[2][3][4].
Reported problems
NHTSA has 4 owner complaints on file for the 2026 Aviator[1]. None of them mention a crash, a fire, an injury or a death[1]. These are unverified reports from owners, and one complaint can name more than one part.
By component group, 2 complaints name seats[6], 1 names latches, locks and linkages[7], and 1 falls under unknown or other[8].
In the complaints we read, owners describe the driver seat sliding back and reclining on its own when the car is unlocked, with worry about anyone sitting behind it[6]. One owner also objected that the fix turns off a seat feature instead of repairing it[6]. That lines up with the first recall below. Another complaint describes the hood coming unlatched while the car was moving and blocking the view ahead[7].
This is a very small set of complaints. Treat them as individual reports, not as a pattern.
Recalls
Six recalls are on file for the 2026 Aviator[2]. Newest first:
- Remedy pending
Driver seat recline (26V470). An empty driver's seat can recline by itself, for example after a remote unlock or remote start. A passenger in the second row could be trapped and hurt. Up to 76,748 vehicles are covered[3]. Dealers will switch off the driver seat module feature for now. The motor gets replaced once parts are available, so the full remedy is not yet available[3]. - Remedy pending
Second-row seat switch (26V451). The switch for the easy-entry second-row outer seats can stick, which may let those seats unlatch, tip or slide. A seat that moves could fail to hold a person in a crash. The recall covers 387,911 vehicles and expands an earlier recall, 25V393[4]. The repair, a replacement bezel around the switch where needed, is phased by model and year. It is expected in January 2027, so for now it is not yet available[4]. - HVAC and defrost (26V202). The climate system can fail and leave the defroster and defogger not working, which can hurt visibility. 55 vehicles are covered[9]. Dealers inspect and secure the instrument panel joints as needed[9].
- Second-row seat belt anchors (26V159). The lower anchor bolts at the outer second-row seats may not be secured properly, so a belt may not hold an occupant well in a crash. 561 vehicles are covered[10]. Dealers inspect the bolts and repair or replace them as needed[10].
- Windshield bubbles (25V730). Air bubbles in the glass can get in the driver's view, and the glass does not meet a federal glazing standard. 56,841 vehicles are covered[11]. Dealers inspect and replace the windshield as needed[11].
- Trailer hitch bolts (25V687). Loose hitch bolts can cause a loss of control while towing, or let the trailer come off. 1,412 vehicles are covered[12]. Dealers inspect and tighten the bolts, or replace them[12].
Ford's notices say VINs for recalls 26V451, 26V202, 26V159, 25V730 and 25V687 can be searched on NHTSA.gov[4][9][10][11][12]. Recall coverage is limited to certain vehicles, so check the specific car you own or plan to buy.
Fuel economy
Both versions use a 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo engine with an Automatic (S10) and run on regular fuel[5][13].
| Version | City | Highway | Combined | EPA annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aviator RWD[5] | 18 mpg | 25 mpg | 21 mpg | $3,200 |
| Aviator AWD[13] | 17 mpg | 25 mpg | 20 mpg | $3,350 |
The EPA cost uses its current fuel price assumptions, not what you will pay today. Rear-wheel drive costs $150 less per year by that estimate[5][13].
Engine and size
The EPA test car list rates the 3.0L 6-cylinder engine at 400 hp[14]. The dimensions below are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models.

| Model year | Complaints | Recalls |
|---|---|---|
| 2003 | 111 | 1 |
| 2004 | 81 | 0 |
| 2005 | 51 | 0 |
| 2020 | 120 | 30 |

| 2026 | 4 | 6 |
NHTSA lists 4 complaints and 6 recalls for the 2026 model year[2]. Only 2027, with 0 complaints, has fewer complaints[2]. The 2024 model year has 7 and 2025 has 18[2].
On recalls, 2026 has fewer than 2020 through 2025, which range from 8 for 2024 up to 30 for 2020[2]. It has more than 2027 (2 recalls) and the 2003 to 2005 years (1, 0 and 0)[2].
These counts are not adjusted for how many cars were sold, so they do not rank years by quality.
Should you buy a used 2026 Aviator?
The complaint record is thin, with 4 complaints and no reported crashes, fires or injuries[1]. The recall list is the bigger item, at 6 recalls, including two seat recalls whose remedies are interim or not yet available[2][3][4]. Before buying, ask for proof that each recall was handled on that exact car, and check its VIN on NHTSA.gov[4][9]. Fuel economy is 20 or 21 mpg combined depending on drive[5][13]. Small complaint counts are not proof of a trouble-free car, since they are not adjusted for sales[2].
