2023 Lincoln Corsair: problems, recalls and fuel economy
Owners filed 23 complaints with NHTSA for the 2023 Lincoln Corsair, and none mention a crash, fire or injury[1]. The bigger story is recalls, with 10 on file, including battery recalls for the plug-in hybrid[2][3].
Most reported problems
NHTSA has 23 complaints on file for this model year[1]. They are unverified owner reports, and one complaint can name more than one component. Here is how they split by component group:
- Electrical system: 11 complaints[6]
- Unknown or other: 6[7]
- Forward collision avoidance: 5[8]
- Power train: 3[9]
- Engine, fuel/propulsion system and speed control: 2 each[10][11][12]
- Brakes: 1[13]
None of the groups lists a crash, fire or injury[6][8][9].
We also read a small sample of the complaint texts. In the electrical sample, owners of plug-in hybrids describe waiting on recall repairs and trouble with the charge limit the recall letter asked for[6]. Others describe a car that drained its battery or shut off, followed by repeated dealer visits[6].
In the forward collision and speed control samples, owners describe cruise control speed jumping above or dropping below the set speed, sometimes with driver-assist features switching off[8][12]. Power train complaints in the sample cover different topics, including a rear differential failure and a plug-in hybrid that went uncharged during a recall[9].
This is a small sample, so it shows what owners describe, not how common a problem is.
Recalls
NHTSA lists 10 recalls for the 2023 Corsair[2]. Several cover many Ford and Lincoln models. They are listed here because the Corsair is named in them. Newest first:
- Traction battery (26V091). Covers 2023 to 2026 plug-in hybrids, 25,237 vehicles[3]. Faulty battery cells can short inside and fail. That can mean a loss of drive power, which raises crash risk, and it can raise fire risk[3]. The fix is a software update to two control modules. Until it is done, owners are told to use only "Auto EV" mode and will get a letter on limiting the maximum charge[3].
- Traction battery (25V789). Covers 2021 to 2024 plug-in hybrids, 20,558 vehicles[14]. Same battery cell defect and same risks. Cars earlier recalled under 24V954 need this newer repair, which is a software update[14]. The same interim advice applies[14].
- Block heater (25V343). Covers 6,781 vehicles with a 1.5L or 2.0L engine and a block heater, including 2023 and 2025 Corsairs[15]. The heater can overheat while parked and plugged in, which raises fire risk. Dealers replace the heater element and check the cord, or owners can choose a sealing plug and cord removal instead[15].
- Seat belt chime (25V338). Covers 4,442 vehicles with a Revel audio system that were repaired wrongly under an earlier recall[16]. The warning chime for an unbuckled driver sounds for under 4 seconds[16]. That does not meet a federal standard and can raise injury risk. Dealers update the audio module software[16].
- Engine fire risk (25V345). Covers 1,809 vehicles with 2.5L hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines that were repaired wrongly under 23V380[17]. If the engine fails, oil and fuel vapor can collect near hot parts and start a fire. Dealers update the powertrain control module software. Owners are told to park and shut off the engine quickly if they hear odd engine noises, lose power or see smoke[17].
- Remedy pending
Rearview camera (25V315). Covers 1,076,138 vehicles across many models, including 2023 and 2024 Corsairs[18]. A software error can delay, freeze or blank the camera image in reverse, which raises crash risk. The fix is a software update at a dealer or over the air. It is rolling out in phases by model and year, so it may not be ready for every car yet[18]. - Traction battery (24V954). Covers 2021 to 2024 Corsairs and some Escapes, 20,484 vehicles in all[19]. Same battery cell defect. Owners are told not to charge the battery until the repair is done. Dealers update the battery control software and replace the battery pack where needed[19].
- Air bag label (24V852). Covers 27,678 vehicles across several models[20]. The air bag warning label may be missing from the dashboard, which does not meet a federal standard. Ford mails owners the label[20].
- Fuel injectors (24V634). Covers 24 vehicles, including some 2023 Corsairs[21]. Injectors may lack support discs for their seals, which can cause a fuel leak and raise fire risk. Dealers install new seals and discs[21].
- Engine fire risk (23V380). Covers 125,322 vehicles, including 2021 to 2023 Corsairs with 2.5L hybrid engines[22]. Same fire risk as 25V345 after an engine failure. For 2023 Corsairs, dealers replace the engine long-block[22]. It replaced an earlier recall, so cars fixed under that one need the new repair[22].
Each recall notice says the repair or label costs owners nothing[3][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. Owners can look up their own VIN on NHTSA.gov to see which recalls apply[3].
Fuel economy
EPA ratings for the 2023 Corsair:
- Front-wheel drive, 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder: 22 city, 30 highway, 25 combined MPG[4]. EPA estimates $2,700 a year in fuel[4].
- All-wheel drive, 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder: 21 city, 28 highway, 24 combined MPG[23]. EPA estimates $2,800 a year in fuel[23].
- All-wheel drive plug-in hybrid, 2.5L 4-cylinder: 33 MPGe combined and 420 miles of range[24].
EPA bases the yearly cost on its current fuel price assumptions, not prices from when the car was new.
Safety ratings
NHTSA rates the all-wheel drive SUV 5 stars overall, 5 for frontal crashes and 5 for side crashes, with 4 stars for rollover and a rollover risk of 17.4%[5]. The front-wheel drive version gets the same star ratings, with a rollover risk of 16.9%[25].
The plug-in hybrid is rated separately. It gets 4 stars frontal and 5 stars side, with a rollover risk of 14.3%[26]. Our data lists no overall star rating for it.
Engine and size
EPA lists the 2.0L 4-cylinder at 250 hp[27] and the 2.5L 4-cylinder at 162 hp[28]. The 2.5L is the engine in the plug-in hybrid[24].
Dimensions below are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models.

The 2023 model year has fewer complaints than 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024, and more than 2025 and 2026[2]. It has fewer recalls than 2020, 2021 and 2022, and more than 2024, 2025 and 2026[2]. Complaint counts are not adjusted for how many cars were sold.
Should you buy a used 2023 Corsair?
The complaint count is low next to 2020 to 2022[2], and the complaints on file report no crashes, fires or injuries[1]. The recall list is the main thing to check, especially the plug-in hybrid battery recalls and the 2.5L engine recall[3][22]. If you are looking at a plug-in hybrid, ask whether the battery repair is done and what charging limits still apply[3][19]. Check the VIN of any car you are considering to see which recalls are open[3]. Our data does not cover reliability scores or repair costs, so treat this page as one input among several.
