2015 Ford Edge: problems, recalls and fuel economy
The 2015 Ford Edge has 731 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, and the largest group names the engine[1][2]. It also has recalls for brake hoses and steering bolts, and it earned 5 stars overall in NHTSA crash ratings[3][4][5][6].
Most reported problems
NHTSA lists 731 owner complaints for the 2015 Edge[1]. Of those, 18 mention a crash, 3 a fire and 18 injuries, and no deaths are reported[1]. These are unverified owner reports. One complaint can name several parts of the car, so the group counts below add up to more than the total[1].
| Component group | Complaints | Median miles at failure |
|---|---|---|
| Engine[2] | 213 | 43,500 |
| Brakes[9] | 133 | 88,000 |
| Power train[10] | 118 | 59,000 |
| Unknown or other[11] | 112 | 32,950 |
| Electrical system[12] | 53 | 26,500 |
| Structure[13] | 51 | 40,000 |
| Visibility/wiper[14] | 43 | 45,000 |
| Steering[15] | 41 | 48,000 |
We also read a small sample of complaint texts in the largest groups. The counts below describe that sample only, not all owners.
Engine. In the 12 engine complaints we read, all 12 describe the engine stalling or losing power, often while slowing, turning or stopped[2]. Seven mention a flashing ignition light or an accessory power message when it happened[2]. Some owners say they got the car running again by shifting into park[2].
Power train. In the 12 power train complaints we read, 10 describe stalling, loss of power or limp-home mode[10]. Three describe a dealer reprogramming the engine computer[10].
Electrical system. In the 12 electrical complaints we read, 9 describe an engine shutdown, a stall or limp-home mode[12]. The same kind of event shows up under several groups, which fits NHTSA letting one complaint name several components[1].
Brakes. In the 12 brake complaints we read, 4 describe reduced braking, such as a long stopping distance or a pedal that went to the floor, and one of those traces it to a split brake hose[9]. Three describe brakes that grab or feel too sensitive at low speed[9]. Three more are mainly about lost throttle response or stalling[9]. Two are about stability or traction control warning lights[9].
Recalls
NHTSA lists 7 recalls for the 2015 Edge[7]. Here they are, newest first.
- Rearview camera (25V572). Dated September 3, 2025[16]. The camera may show a distorted, inverted or blank image when the car is in reverse[16]. That reduces the driver's view behind the car and raises the risk of a crash[16]. Dealers inspect the camera and replace it as necessary, free of charge[16]. Ford began mailing owner letters in January 2026[16].
- Rear brake hose (25V544). Dated August 22, 2025[3]. The rear brake jounce hose may rupture and leak brake fluid[3]. That makes the car take longer to stop and raises the risk of a crash[3]. Dealers inspect the hoses, replace them and adjust ones that show no damage, free of charge[3]. Owner letters were mailed September 17, 2026[3].
- Shifter cable bushing (22V413). Dated June 10, 2022[17]. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may wear out or come off[17]. The car may not go into the gear the driver picked, may move in an unexpected direction, and may roll after the driver selects Park[17]. Dealers replace the bushing and add a protective cap, free of charge[17]. Owner letters were mailed October 27, 2022[17].
- Front brake hoses (20V469). Dated August 10, 2020[4]. The front brake hoses may rupture early and leak brake fluid, which lengthens stopping distance and raises the risk of a crash[4]. Dealers replace them with hoses made with a revised braid material, free of charge[4]. Owner letters were mailed May 13, 2021[4].
- Power steering bolts (19V632). Dated August 29, 2019[5]. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the bolts that hold the electric power steering motor[5]. If they fail, the motor can come loose and the driver loses power steering assist, so the wheel takes more effort to turn, especially at low speeds[5]. This recall covers 2015 and 2016 Edges sold or registered in a list of states that includes New York, Ohio and Illinois, plus the District of Columbia[5]. Dealers replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer, and install a new steering gear if bolts are broken or missing, free of charge[5].
- Stability control software (16V733). Dated October 12, 2016[18]. This one covers only 53 vehicles[18]. Certain 2015 and 2016 Edges built between February 9, 2015 and August 12, 2016 may have been given the wrong ABS and stability control software during dealer service[18]. The system could lose engine torque control without any warning lamp, which raises the risk of a crash[18]. Dealers replace the ABS module and update the software, free of charge[18].
- Power steering bolts (15V250). Dated April 28, 2015[19]. This is the same corrosion problem as 19V632, for 2015 Edges built February 26 to February 28, 2015, and sold or registered in a similar list of states[19]. Dealers apply sealer and replace the bolts as required, and install a new steering gear if bolts are broken or missing, free of charge[19].
Our data does not show whether a particular car already had these repairs done.
Fuel economy
EPA ratings for the 2015 Edge run from 20 to 24 MPG combined, depending on engine and drive[8][20][21][22][23][24][25]. All are Automatic (S6) and use regular gas[8][20][21][22][23][24][25]. EPA lists two ratings for the front-wheel-drive 2.0L turbo, shown as two rows[8][25].
| Drive | Engine | City / highway / combined MPG | EPA annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Front-wheel drive[8] | 2.0L 4-cyl turbo | 20 / 30 / 24 | $2,800 |
| Front-wheel drive[25] | 2.0L 4-cyl turbo | 21 / 29 / 24 | $2,800 |
| Front-wheel drive[20] | 3.5L 6-cyl | 18 / 26 / 21 | $3,200 |
| Front-wheel drive[21] | 2.7L 6-cyl turbo | 18 / 27 / 21 | $3,200 |
| All-wheel drive[22] | 2.0L 4-cyl turbo | 20 / 28 / 23 | $2,900 |
| All-wheel drive[23] | 3.5L 6-cyl | 17 / 24 / 20 | $3,350 |
| All-wheel drive[24] | 2.7L 6-cyl turbo | 17 / 24 / 20 | $3,350 |
The annual cost uses EPA's current fuel price assumptions, not the price when the car was new.
Safety ratings
NHTSA gives the all-wheel-drive Edge 5 stars overall, 5 for frontal crash, 5 for side crash and 4 for rollover, with a rollover risk of 15.5%[6]. The front-wheel-drive Edge has the same star ratings and a rollover risk of 15.4%[26].
Engine and size
EPA lists three engines for the 2015 Edge[27][28][29].
- 2.0L 4-cylinder: rated 245 hp[27]
- 3.5L 6-cylinder: rated 280 hp[29]
- 2.7L 6-cylinder: rated 325 hp[28]
Dimensions below are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models[30][31].

NHTSA data covers 18 Edge model years, 2007 to 2024[7]. The 2015 model has 731 complaints, which puts it 10th from the top[7]. Nine years have more: 2013 (2,447), 2011 (1,803), 2017 (1,374), 2012 (1,134), 2008 (1,120), 2007 (989), 2016 (926), 2018 (846) and 2019 (772)[7]. Eight years have fewer, including 2014 with 383[7].
For recalls, 2015 has 7[7]. Only 2017 has more, with 8[7]. The 2016, 2018 and 2021 model years also have 7[7]. Complaint counts are not adjusted for sales, so they show how much was reported, not how likely a car is to have a problem.
Should you buy a used 2015 Edge?
The 2015 Edge has solid crash ratings, with 5 stars overall[6][26]. Against that, the complaint samples we read mostly describe stalls and power loss in the engine, power train and electrical groups (12, 10 and 9 of 12 in each sample)[2][10][12][2][10][12]. The model year also has 7 recalls, including two for brake hoses and two for steering bolts, and each recall repair is free of charge at a dealer[16][3][17][4][5][18][19][7]. Our data cannot say how any single car has held up. A service history and a check that the recall work was done would tell you more than the averages do.
