2020 Lincoln Corsair: problems, recalls and fuel economy
The 2020 Lincoln Corsair has 61 owner complaints on file with NHTSA, and the rearview camera is the biggest topic[1][2]. It also has 16 recalls, so check your VIN before you buy or keep one[3].
Most reported problems
NHTSA has 61 owner complaints on file for the 2020 Corsair[1]. Three mention a crash, one a fire and two an injury. None report a death[1]. These are unverified reports from owners, and one complaint can name more than one part.
The biggest group is the rearview camera system. 18 complaints name the back over prevention group[2]. One of them mentions a crash and one an injury, and the median mileage at failure was 46,000[2]. In a sample of 12 of those complaint texts we read, 8 describe a camera image that goes blank, blue, grey or blurry, or a camera that stops working[2]. 6 of the 12 come from owners who got a camera recall notice and were still waiting for repair parts[2].
The electrical system comes next with 12 complaints, including one fire[6]. In a sample of 9 texts, 4 describe the car losing electrical power or going dead[6]. The sample is small, so treat it as a hint and not a rule.
Smaller groups:
- Unknown or other: 11 complaints[7]
- Engine: 7 complaints, with 1 crash, 1 fire and 1 injury[8]
- Brakes: 6 complaints, with 2 crashes and 1 injury[9]
- Forward collision avoidance: 6 complaints, with 1 crash and 1 injury[10]
- Exterior lighting: 6 complaints[11]
- Structure: 4 complaints, with 1 crash[12]
Engine complaints in the sample we read are one-off stories, such as overheating, a turbo failure and a car that rolled after parking. We did not see one repeated pattern there[8]. Complaint counts are not adjusted for how many cars were sold.
Recalls
NHTSA lists 16 recalls for the 2020 Corsair[3]. Newest first. Many of them cover other Ford and Lincoln models too[13][14]. Check your own car by VIN on NHTSA.gov.
- Remedy pending
Wiper motor (26V117). The windshield wiper motor may fail, so the wipers stop working properly. That can reduce visibility and raise crash risk. Dealers will check the front wiper motors and replace them if needed, at no cost. The final remedy is not yet available. Ford said the final remedy was anticipated for October 2026[13]. Interim letters went out April 2, 2026[13]. - Rearview image flips (26V123). The picture on the center screen can show flipped or upside down when the car is shifted into reverse. That reduces the view behind the car and raises crash risk. Dealers will update the accessory protocol interface module software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed June 23, 2026[15].
- Block heater (25V685). The engine block heater may crack and leak coolant, which can short circuit when plugged in and raise fire risk. Owners are told not to plug in the block heater until the car is fixed. The remedy is to replace the heater, or to swap the heater element for a plug and remove the cord. Interim letters went out December 3, 2025, and the final remedy was anticipated for September 2026[16]. The recall text we have does not confirm that it is available.
- Camera connectors (25V510). Water may get into the rearview camera connectors, so the image may not show or may look distorted. That raises crash risk. Dealers will replace the camera harness and the camera, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed May 1, 2026[17].
- Camera software (25V442). A software error may leave the rearview camera blank, or leave the image on the screen after the car leaves reverse. Both can raise crash risk. Dealers will update the camera software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 4, 2025[14].
- Seat belt chime (25V338). On cars with a Revel Audio System that were repaired wrongly under recall 22V953, the unbuckled seat belt chime may sound for less than 4 seconds[18]. That can raise injury risk in a crash. A dealer will load new software on the audio control module at no cost to the owner. Owner letters were mailed July 3, 2025[18].
- Camera video output (25V159). On cars that were repaired incorrectly under recall 23V342, the rear image can drop out[19]. That raises crash risk. A dealer will load new software on the image processing module at no cost to the owner. Owner letters were mailed April 25, 2025[19].
- Camera blank or distorted (25V048). The rearview camera may show a blank or distorted image, which raises crash risk. Dealers will replace the camera if needed, at no cost. Owner letters were mailed September 18, 2025[20].
- Air bag label (24V852). The dashboard may not have the air bag warning label it should have. Without it, occupants may not see the proper restraint guidance, which can raise injury risk in a crash. Ford will send owners the missing labels at no cost. Owner letters were mailed December 19, 2024[21].
- 360-degree camera (23V342). On cars with a 360-degree camera, the rear image can drop out[22]. That raises crash risk. A dealer will put in a new 360-degree camera at no cost to the owner[22]. It expands and replaces 23V022, so cars repaired under 23V022 need the new remedy[22]. Owner letters were mailed November 10, 2023[22].
- 360-degree camera software (23V022). The same rear image dropout on cars with a 360-degree camera[23]. A dealer will load new software on the image processing module at no cost to the owner. It expands and replaces 21V735[23]. It was in turn expanded and replaced by 23V342[22]. Owner letters were mailed February 13, 2023[23].
- Seat belt chime (22V953). On cars with a Revel Audio System, the unbuckled seat belt chime may sound for less than 4 seconds[24]. That can raise injury risk in a crash. A dealer will load new software on the audio control module at no cost to the owner. Owner letters were mailed February 7, 2023[24].
- Camera video output (21V735). On cars with 360-degree cameras, the rear image can drop out[25]. That raises crash risk. A dealer will load new software on the image processing module at no cost to the owner. Owner letters were mailed November 16, 2021[25].
- Camera connection (20V575). A poor electrical connection may make the rearview camera show a blank or distorted image. That reduces the view behind the car and raises crash risk. Dealers will replace the camera, free of charge. The remedy became available February 1, 2021[26].
- Start/stop accumulator (20V550). Bolts on the end cap of the start/stop accumulator may be loose or missing. That could cause a transmission fluid leak, then a loss of transmission function, and with an ignition source it may raise fire risk. Dealers will replace the accumulator, free of charge. The recall covered 97 vehicles across several models[27].
- Rear coil spring (20V470). There may be too little clearance between the rear coil springs and the toe link brackets, so a spring could break. That can affect handling, and a broken spring could become a road hazard. Dealers will inspect the clearance, trim the bracket edge if needed and install a new spring, free of charge. It covers certain 2020 Corsairs only[28].
Fuel economy
The EPA lists three versions of the 2020 Corsair:
| Version | City / highway / combined MPG | EPA annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| FWD, 2.0L turbo, Automatic (S8)[4] | 22 / 29 / 25 | $2,700 |
| AWD, 2.3L turbo, Automatic (S8)[29] | 21 / 28 / 24 | $2,800 |
| AWD, 2.0L turbo, Automatic (S8)[30] | 21 / 29 / 24 | $2,800 |
All three use regular fuel[4][29][30]. The annual cost uses EPA's current fuel price assumptions, not the price when the car was new.
Safety ratings
NHTSA gives the all-wheel-drive Corsair 5 stars overall, 5 for frontal, 5 for side and 4 for rollover, with a rollover risk of 17.4%[5]. The front-wheel-drive version also gets 5 stars overall and 4 for rollover, with a rollover risk of 16.9%[31].
Engine and size
The EPA test car list rates the 2.0L 4-cylinder at 235 hp[32] and the 2.3L 4-cylinder at 285 hp[33].
Dimensions are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models.
How 2020 compares with other years
Show the numbers
| Model year | Complaints | Recalls |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 61 | 16 |
| 2021 | 43 | 23 |
| 2022 | 58 | 20 |
| 2023 | 23 | 10 |
| 2024 | 27 | 6 |
| 2025 | 8 | 7 |
Among Corsair model years, 2020 has the most complaints on file with NHTSA: 61, against 43 for 2021, 58 for 2022, 23 for 2023, 27 for 2024, 8 for 2025 and none for 2026[3]. These counts are not adjusted for sales.
On recalls, 2020 has 16[3]. That is third behind 2021 with 23 and 2022 with 20[3]. The later years have 10, 6, 7 and 5[3]. Some recalls cover several model years, so the counts overlap[13][14].
Should you buy a used 2020 Corsair?
The 2020 Corsair has 5-star overall NHTSA ratings[5][31], but it also has the most complaints of any Corsair year[3] and 16 recalls[3]. Many of those recalls are about the rearview camera[17][14][22], and owners in the sample we read report both camera failures and waits for parts[2]. Before buying, run the VIN on NHTSA.gov and ask for proof that each recall was done. The wiper motor recall had no final remedy when the data was gathered[13], and the block heater recall does not confirm one, so do not plug in the block heater until that recall is done[16]. Our data does not cover repair costs or reliability scores, so get an inspection.
