2015 Cadillac SRX: problems, recalls and fuel economy
NHTSA lists 443 owner complaints for the 2015 Cadillac SRX, and 302 of them name exterior lighting[1][2]. It also has recalls, and the newest one, for the driver air bag inflator, has no remedy yet[3].
Most reported problems
Owners file complaints with NHTSA. These are unverified reports, and one complaint can name several components. The counts are not adjusted for how many cars were sold.
The biggest group by far is exterior lighting, with 302 complaints[2]. Next come the electrical system with 45[7], unknown or other with 42[8], suspension with 29[9] and visibility/wiper with 24[10]. Smaller groups include the power train with 18[11], brakes with 17[12] and the engine with 11[13].
- Headlights. In the sample of exterior lighting complaints we read, 10 of 12 describe low beams that are too dim to drive safely at night[2]. Owners say they switch to high beams, and some describe dealer quotes for replacement[2]. The visibility/wiper group has the same pattern in 11 of 12 sampled complaints, with one sunroof glass break in the rest[10]. Five of 12 sampled electrical complaints are also about dim lights[7].
- Touch screen. In the electrical sample, 5 of 12 complaints describe a touch screen that freezes or stops working[7].
- Rear suspension. In the suspension sample, 9 of 12 complaints mention a rear toe link failure or the toe link recall[9]. Owners describe the rear end swaying or losing control, and 6 of 12 say the recall repair parts were not yet available at the dealer[9].
For the lighting group, the median mileage at failure is 51,100[2], with 2 crashes and 2 injuries named[2]. Across all groups, NHTSA shows 12 complaints that mention a crash, 3 a fire and 11 injuries, with 0 deaths reported[1].
Recalls
NHTSA lists 4 recalls for this model year, newest first[3][14][15][16].
- Remedy pending
Driver air bag inflator (26V329), May 2026. The front driver air bag inflator may rupture when it deploys. Metal fragments could hit the driver or other occupants and cause serious injury or death. Dealers will replace the driver air bag module for free, but the remedy is not yet available. Additional letters will be mailed once it is[3]. This recall covers certain vehicles, so check whether yours is included. - Rear suspension toe link (21V473), June 2021. A part in the rear suspension may have been installed too loosely, which could leave a loose link that separates and causes a loss of control. At no cost to you, dealers swap the adjustable toe link for a fixed, non-adjustable part. Owners are told not to drive if certain warning lights or odd steering behavior appear[14].
- Driver seat bracket (14V804), December 2014. Some 2015 SRX vehicles built from November 11 to December 3, 2014[15] may have an incorrect seat track bracket. The driver's seat might not stay attached in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the brackets for free[15].
- Rear suspension toe link (14V571), September 2014. A jam nut in the toe adjuster link may not be tightened to specification. A loose link can make the car sway or wander at highway speeds and may eventually fail, causing an abrupt change in alignment and a loss of control. Dealers will check the torque of the lock nuts and replace parts if there is damage or a loose link, for free. It covers SRX vehicles built from April 14, 2009 to September 1, 2014[16].
Fuel economy
EPA lists two versions with the same 3.6L 6-cylinder engine and Automatic (S6) transmission, both on regular fuel[5][17].
| Version | City / Highway / Combined MPG | Annual fuel cost |
|---|---|---|
| Front-wheel drive[5] | 17 / 24 / 19 | $3,550 |
| All-wheel drive[17] | 16 / 23 / 18 | $3,700 |
EPA's annual cost uses its current fuel price assumptions, not the price when the car was new.
Safety ratings
NHTSA gives both versions an overall rating of 5 stars, with 4 stars for frontal crash, 5 stars for side crash and 4 stars for rollover[6][18].
Engine and size
The EPA test list rates the 3.6L 6-cylinder engine at 280 hp[19].
These dimensions are Canadian-market specifications and can differ slightly from US models.

The neighboring years are lower. 2014 has 390 complaints and 2 recalls, and 2016 has 168 complaints and 2 recalls[4]. Complaint counts are not adjusted for sales, so compare them as a rough guide only.
Should you buy a used 2015 SRX?
The 2015 SRX has a 5-star overall NHTSA rating, with 4 stars for frontal crash and rollover[6][18]. In the sample of lighting complaints we read, 10 of 12 describe dim headlights[2]. The air bag inflator recall has no remedy yet[3]. The toe link recalls involve a risk of losing control[14][16], so ask a dealer whether each recall applies to the exact car and was done. EPA rates it at 18 or 19 combined MPG, depending on drive[5][17].
