2025 Ford Bronco: problems, recalls and fuel economy
The 2025 Ford Bronco has 55 owner complaints on file with NHTSA[1] and 19 recalls[2]. Every recall lists a free repair, but the fix for one engine recall is not yet available[3].
Most reported problems
NHTSA has 55 owner complaints on file for the 2025 Bronco[1]. Five mention a crash, two a fire, two an injury, and one reports a death[1]. These are unverified owner reports. One complaint can name several components, so the groups below add up to more than 55[1]. Counts are also not adjusted for how many Broncos were sold.
- Electrical system, 17 complaints[5]. One mentions a crash, one a fire and one an injury[5]. In the sample of complaint texts we read, owners describe the instrument panel or gauge display going blank or not turning on, and one describes the audio cutting out[5]. A recall covers the instrument cluster (25V788)[6].
- Engine, 10 complaints[7]. One mentions a crash and one a fire[7]. In the sample we read, owners describe a sudden loss of power or the engine shutting off, and one describes a fire that started in the engine compartment[7].
- Unknown or other, 9 complaints[8]. One mentions a crash[8]. The group does not say what failed.
- Brakes, 7 complaints[9]. One mentions a crash[9]. In the sample we read, owners describe a brake pedal that goes hard or dead, with brake warnings on the dash. One says dealer visits did not correct it[9].
- Forward collision avoidance, 6 complaints[10]. None mention a crash[10]. In the sample we read, owners describe the automatic braking system acting when nothing was in the way, and loss of braking with collision warnings[10].
Power train has 5 complaints[11], speed control has 5 (one with a crash, one with an injury)[12], and structure has 4[13]. These counts are small, so we do not call them common problems.
Recalls
NHTSA lists 19 recalls for the 2025 model year[2]. Each one below is retold in plain words, newest first. Many of these recalls cover other model years or other Ford models too[14][3][15][16][17][18].
- Remedy pending
Engine wiring harness (26V468). The wiring in the engine compartment may get damaged and short circuit, which raises the risk of a fire. Dealers will add protective sheathing over the wiring for free. The recall is phased[14], and owners of 2021-2026 Bronco vehicles were to be notified on or about September 1, 2026. It covers 565,691 vehicles[14]. One owner in our complaint sample says the repair part was not yet available at the dealer[5][7]. - Fender flares (26V403). The fender flares may not be secured well and could fall off, becoming a road hazard. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace them for free. It covers 36,046 vehicles[19].
- Remedy pending
Engine failure (26V343). The engine may fail and cause a sudden loss of drive power, which raises the risk of a crash. The fix is a new engine long block, and the remedy is not yet available. Ford anticipates it in November 2026. It covers 1,536 vehicles[3]. - Front seat bolt (26V268). A pivot bolt in the front seat frame may be loose or come out, so the seat may not hold a person properly in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace parts as needed for free. It covers 179,698 vehicles[15].
- Transmission to transfer case joint (26V236). A joint may be misaligned after an incorrectly performed earlier repair, which can wear the splines and lead to a loss of drive power or the vehicle rolling away. Dealers will inspect it and replace the transmission and transfer case as needed, for free. It covers 4,922 vehicles[20].
- Rearview camera (26V124). A module may overheat and shut down, so the rearview camera image may not show. A dealer or an over-the-air update will fix the software for free. It covers 849,310 vehicles[21].
- EGR valve (26V122). The exhaust gas recirculation valve may fail and cause an unexpected loss of drive power. Dealers will replace the valve for free. It covers 47,804 vehicles[16].
- Electronic brake booster, second recall (25V823). The brake booster module may malfunction and cause a loss of power brake assist, which can lengthen stopping distance. Dealers will replace the booster for free. It covers 679 vehicles[17].
- Instrument cluster (25V788). The instrument cluster may fail at startup, so warning lights and vehicle speed may not show. A dealer or an over-the-air software update will fix it for free. It covers 229,609 vehicles[6].
- Windshield (25V683). The windshield may not have been bonded properly and could come loose in a crash. Dealers will replace it for free. It covers 9 vehicles[22].
- Electronic brake booster (25V488). The same kind of brake booster problem, with a software fix by over-the-air update or at a dealer, for free. It covers 312,120 vehicles[18].
- Rear door child lock (25V397). On four-door Broncos, the left rear door may open from inside even with the child safety lock on. Dealers will inspect and replace the latch as needed for free. It covers 27,768 vehicles[23].
- Passenger air bag (25V396). A vent flap on the passenger side may keep the air bag from deploying as intended. Dealers will replace the air bag module for free. It covers 2,272 vehicles[24].
- Driver seat bolts (25V311). The bolts that hold the driver's seat frame may be loose or missing. Dealers will inspect and tighten or add fasteners for free. It covers 46 vehicles[25].
- Front lower control arm (25V308). The fasteners may not be tight, so the arm could detach and cause a loss of steering and control. Owners are advised not to drive until it is repaired. Dealers will inspect and fix it for free. It covers 3 vehicles[26].
- Front upper control arm ball joint (25V310). A fastener may be missing or loose, so the arm could detach and cause a loss of steering and control. Dealers will inspect and tighten or replace it for free. It covers 4,497 vehicles[27].
- Front upper control arm ball joint nut (25V260). The same kind of problem with a nut. Owners are advised not to drive until it is repaired. Dealers will inspect and replace the ball joint and knuckle if needed, for free. It covers 2 vehicles[28].
- Transmission valve body (25V164). The valve body may have been machined wrong, which can cause reverse gear failure or unexpected movement in reverse or neutral. Dealers will replace the valve body for free. It covers 269 vehicles[29].
- Front upper control arm ball joint nut (24V770). The nut may not have been installed or tightened properly, so the arm could detach and cause a loss of steering and control. Dealers will inspect and fix it for free. It covers 2,416 vehicles[30].
Fuel economy
EPA ratings for the 2025 Bronco depend on the version. Combined MPG runs from 15 for the Raptor[31] to 20 for the Outer Banks[4] and for the 2.3L automatic[32]. All use regular gas and part-time 4-wheel drive[31][4][32]. The annual fuel cost uses EPA's current fuel price assumptions, not the price when the car was new.

NHTSA counts for each Bronco model year in our data show 55 complaints and 19 recalls for 2025[2]. Only 2026 has fewer complaints, at 11[2]. The 2022 model year has the most, at 383, and 2021 and 2023 have 230 each[2]. For recalls, 2022 has 23 and 2021 has 20, so 2025 is third at 19, just ahead of 2023 at 18 and 2024 at 16[2]. The 2026 year has 9 recalls[2].
Complaint counts are not adjusted for sales, so they do not show which year is more reliable.
Should you buy a used 2025 Bronco?
The 2025 Bronco has a long recall list, but every recall in our data lists a free repair[14][19][3][15][20][21][16][17][6][22][18][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. The engine failure recall has no remedy available yet, so ask any seller whether the vehicle is covered by it[3]. Check which recalls have been completed on a specific vehicle before you buy. Complaints are fewer than in most other listed years, and electrical and engine reports lead the list[5][7][2]. Those are unverified owner reports from a small sample, so treat them as questions to ask rather than a verdict.
