Air bags. 18 of the 63 complaints mention a crash and 15 mention an injury, with a median mileage of 117,500 at the time of the problem[4]. In a sample of 12 air bag complaints we read, 11 describe an air bag that did not deploy as the owner expected in a crash (one of those texts appears twice), including cases where the passenger bag went off and the driver one did not[4]., including cases where the passenger bag went off and the driver one did not[4]. One describes bags going off with no crash[4].
Electrical. 12 of the 43 complaints mention a fire, and the median mileage is 73,000[5]. In a sample of 12 we read, 5 describe smoke, flames or melted wiring at the dash vents or the blower motor wiring, and 3 describe the instrument display blinking or going blank[5]. This matches the blower wiring recall below.
Structure. 30 complaints, none with a crash, fire or injury, and a median mileage of 70,000[6]. In a sample of 12 we read, 4 describe water leaking into the cabin and wetting the floor or carpet[6].
Engine. 25 complaints, 2 with a fire[7]. In a sample of 12 we read, 6 mention smoke, a burning smell or fire, though one of those texts appears twice, and 2 describe the truck stalling or shutting off[7].
Smaller groups are power train with 16 complaints[9], visibility with 15[10] and suspension with 12[11]. We do not call any of these common problems.
Recalls
NHTSA lists 12 recalls for the 2006 Ridgeline[2]. Most recalls below say the fix is free. Many cover only certain vehicles, regions or build dates, so ask Honda or a dealer whether your truck is included. Honda's customer service number in the 2022 notice is 1-888-234-2138[12].
- Frame corrosion (22V430), June 2022. In the states and Washington D.C. listed in the notice, road salt can corrode the frame where the fuel tank bands attach, so the tank could come loose and leak fuel. A leak near a spark raises fire risk. Dealers inspect and repair the rear frame, and Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle if corrosion is bad[12].
- Driver air bag inflator (19V499), June 2019. Replacement inflators installed as an earlier fix may explode with age and humidity and send metal fragments at occupants. Dealers replace the inflator free[13].
- Passenger air bag inflator (19V501), June 2019. Same inflator danger on the passenger side. Dealers replace the inflator free[14].
- Driver air bag inflator (19V182), March 2019. Trucks that got a replacement inflator in an earlier Takata recall may have an inflator that explodes. Dealers swap in an alternate inflator free[15].
- Passenger air bag inflator (17V029), January 2017. Applies to trucks sold or registered in the states and territories listed in the notice. The inflator can rupture and throw metal fragments. Dealers replace it free[16].
- Passenger air bag inflator (16V344), May 2016. Same hazard, for trucks sold or registered in the states and territories listed in the notice. Dealers replace the inflator free[17].
- Driver air bag inflator (15V320), May 2015. Moisture and manufacturing variation may cause the inflator to rupture in a crash. Dealers replace it free[18].
- Passenger air bag (14V700), November 2014. Covers trucks sold or registered in high humidity locations. The inflator could rupture. Dealers replace it free[19].
- Passenger air bag (14V353), June 2014. A limited recall for trucks sold or registered in California with Takata inflators. The inflator could rupture. Dealers replace it free[20].
- Blower motor wiring (10V001), January 2010. On certain 2006 and 2007 Ridgelines built between January 17, 2005 and June 7, 2006[21], a connector under the passenger side of the dash can be kicked and overheat. The wire insulation can melt and cause a fire. Dealers inspect, replace damaged connectors and add a protective cover free[21].
- Fuel pump relay (07V097), March 2007. A coil wire in the relay may break and cut power to the fuel pump. The engine could stall while driving, and a crash could occur. Dealers replace the relay free[22].
- Owner's manual (06V270), July 2006. The manual had the wrong NHTSA hotline information. Honda sent owners a correction postcard[23].

Should you buy a used 2006 Ridgeline?
The 2006 Ridgeline has a heavy recall history and 242 complaints[1][2]. Most of the recall list is about air bag inflators, so ask for proof that every recall was done on the specific truck[13][14]. The frame corrosion recall matters most for trucks sold or registered in the states listed in the notice[12]. The blower wiring recall relates to the fire complaints in the electrical group[5][21]. A truck with confirmed recall work and a clean inspection of the frame and blower wiring is a fairer bet than one with no records. EPA rates it at 17 MPG combined[3].
